I have used the Covenant Eyes app for online accountability for many years and it's a great tool. I continue to receive accountability reports for friends who use it. However, it's not your only option for online accountability, and in my opinion the best alternative to the Covenant Eyes app is Accountable2You. Here's 5 reasons why you should consider Accountable2You.
Both products require a monthly subscription. This is a completely legitimate business model but monthly subscriptions quickly add up. Therefore, you don't want to pay more than you need to. Accountable2You costs $6.99 per month for an individual user compared with Covenant Eyes which is $11.99 (and they offer content filtering for an additional $1.50). For a family subscription, Accountable2You will cost you $9.99 whereas Covenant Eyes comes in at $15.99. There is also the option to sign up with Accountable2You as a church or group for $9.99 per month plus $2.99 per user.
Both products send monthly reports to your nominated accountability partners, but Accountable2You provides instant text alerts.
"If highly objectionable activity is detected, you can select to have Instant Text Alerts sent to the partners specified to that account which will notify them immediately."
This means that your accountability partner don't need to wait until the end of the month to find out you were in trouble.
Sometimes it's good for your accountability partners to know where you are. You need to turn this on (i.e. you don't need to provide this information to your partners if you don't need or want to) but it's a valuable feature when required.
This feature is available on the family plan and will alert you when devices are being used by your children outside of a specified time range.
You can use Accountable2You for accountability on Windows, Android, Kindle, ChromeOS, MacOS, iOS and Linux. In addition, Accountable2You provides accountability not only on websites and apps, but also on content that is viewed via a USB drive. By comparison, Covenant Eyes provides accountability on Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android and Kindle Fire.
