35 Ideas For Men’s Ministry

Beer tasting, anger management courses, fight clubs and curry nights - here are 35 ideas for men's ministry from around the world.

This year I'm leading the team behind BASECAMP - 2 events that bring men together to hear from God, and be spurred on to live for Him. Last year, 3131 men from 18 denominations and 252 churches attended BASECAMP.

As I've been engaging with churches and inviting them to attend, I've visited many church websites and discovered a huge range of men's ministry activities taking place across Australia. From beer tasting and anger management courses, to fight clubs and curry nights - men's ministry exists in many different shapes and sizes as men seek to build each other up, and introduce other men to Jesus.

4x4 Bushwalk and Mountain Biking

Calling all men. Saturday, 2nd May, we are heading to Mt Mee. What’s on offer? Bush walking (a nice long one), 4WD or even mountain biking. We will all start from The Gantry picnic ground on Mt Mee. The walkers have a 13km walk ahead of them, the 4WDers and their passengers have a day of fun in the bush and the mountain bike riders peddling through the many trails.

A is for Ale and J is for Jesus

A is for Ale is a once a year meeting place for men to do what men like to do - enjoy good beer, good food and great conversation with their mates. But it’s different from the local bistro, as the beers are tasted and explained, the meeting place is a church hall, the mates are a mixture of church lads and their friends and the topic of religion is well worth a good chat about.

Anger Management Course

“Helping angry men in Melbourne’s west battle their demons and become a man of peace is the aim of a new program. Developed by the Melton Baptist Church, Pastor Albert Peck said the network was inspired by the journeys of many men in the community who had been wrestling with anger issues. He said a couple of years ago a small support group was formed at the church for men, struggling with their anger, to be able to talk, share and grow.”

Fight Club

“What is the fight? What is the strategy? Fight Club is a meeting of men on the first Saturday of the month at PBC from 8-10am. Breakfast is provided but the purpose of it is much more than a bunch of blokes getting together for brunch. We are passionate about Jesus Christ and walking in His ways. We recognise that we are not meant to follow Christ on our own and therefore we meet to declare our unity and commitment to Christ and to each other. We expose a fight that may be taking us off course with Jesus and then we determine a battle strategy for the month (and ongoing) to set us apart from the pack. All men are welcome but one thing we ask – come ready to take up the challenge!

Fitness 4 Blokes

Fitness 4 Blokes was formed in August 2012 and each Saturday morning several men workout together from 7.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. The group normally trains in the Berwick Anglican Church hall, but during the warmer months takes the opportunity to exercise outside as much as possible, either in the church grounds or at a local park…The group is open to men aged 18 to 55 from within and outside the church. There are no fees charged as this is a free service to the church and the broader community…

GIG Nights

These nights expose us to an area of the Christian life and then encourage us to ask questions or make comments. Men who come along don’t always actively participate. It is OK to sit, watch and listen to others share while you just enjoy the company. You don’t have to be a Christian; in fact these non-threatening evenings might just be the opportunity you need to ask questions to find out what being a Christian means.

Manly Man Events

Jesus calls REAL men to get REAL about following Him. Men’s Ministry at Deep Creek is about helping blokes do just that – becoming more like Jesus and doing great things for Jesus. Men’s Growth Groups

A typical session involve spending some time reading the Bible, thinking together about what it means for life today, and praying to God. There’ll be nothing weird or nothing secretive – just thinking about Jesus with a few likeminded blokes. You might just want to come along for a couple of weeks to check it out, and that’s fine. You might know nothing about Jesus, or you might know heaps. Either way, we reckon you will benefit hugely from spending time in a Bible Study group with other men.

Men’s Shed

Men’s Shed is for blokes! Men of all ages are welcome. Join us in a relaxed environment at various locations (often sheds) for a cuppa or a can and “chew the fat”. Men’s Shed is coordinated by blokes from both the Uniting Church and the Church of Christ…The wider community acknowledges the increasing incidence of men’s health issues, including isolation and stress related illnesses experienced by men in rural areas. Through Men’s Shed we aim to bring fellas together and present a positive message of faith in action for men through knowing the greatest man to walk on earth, Jesus Christ.

Mentoring for Men

Mentoring is a way of growing – of creating spaces in our lives in which we very deliberately seek to grow in God and seek to support others as they grow in Him. God didn’t design us to make our life journey alone, especially when it comes to growing in Him!

RealMen
Real Men is fun enough and manly enough that the average non-churched bloke should be able to attend and fit right in. We want to build community among the guys with enough time for some spiritual input, blokey fun and whatever else we find ourselves doing that works towards the goal of establishing Real Men in our local church. Each week alternates between Campbelltown and Camden at Dale or Alan’s place.

Saturday Morning Breakfasts

These very successful hearty breakfasts commenced in May ‘98 to encourage a greater personal awareness within the congregation and in particular the men of the congregation in bringing together, the people in a ‘fellowship spirit’ to encourage a closer group of companionship in the congregation generally, other than meeting each Sunday at the services. This gives the opportunity to meet at an informal venue and sometimes have a visiting guest speaker. The topics have been on a wide range of informative subjects: eg. The Christian in the Modern World, The Presbyterian Church To-day, Police Chaplaincy, The ANZAC Spirit and many more.

State of Origin Auction Night

Each year we gather to watch the second State of Origin Rugby League match and bid in the missions auction. Over $4k is raised each year for a mission project. Each Wednesday we meet together over a coffee before work to support and encourage each other and discuss the implications of Bible teaching for our work and family lives.

Tradies Tracks

About 3-4 times a year we gather all of our blokes together, often around a barbie or a bonfire, to hear someone speak from the bible to men about how to live out our faith in the cut and thrust of everyday life. These events are aimed at dealing with issues that our tradies face in living out their Christian lives in a challenging workplace, although that means we will be dealing with topics relevant to all men. So, every bloke is welcome.
